We're glad you're browsing De Boekendraak! Because we like to be transparent, we're happy to explain how our prices are determined.
New books: Fixed is fixed When you buy a brand new book from us, we don't have to think about it for long. In the Netherlands, the Fixed Book Price Act applies. The price for a new book is determined by the publisher or author, and every bookseller must adhere to it. It's that simple!
Second-hand books: Love, detective work, and a bit of arithmetic With our second-hand treasures, it's different. We determine the price ourselves, and that's always a fun puzzle. We look at a number of things:
- The condition of the book: Is it as new, or does it have that characteristic 'read' vibe? And is it a sturdy hardcover or a lovely paperback?
- Edition and rarity: Is it a first edition, or a book you can't find anywhere else?
- Market value: Of course, we check what a book costs elsewhere.
Our Boekendraak philosophy For us, De Boekendraak is a hobby that got out of hand and a passion project. We mainly want to keep books accessible and fun for everyone. That's why we always try to keep our prices just below the average market price.
Of course, we also incur costs for purchasing and managing the webshop. We don't need to earn a top price and deliberately keep our margins small, but making a loss is not the intention either. This way, we keep De Boekendraak healthy, so we can continue to save and share books!
